Ernest Marvin Mills, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 8th, 2020 in West Point, GA.
Born on July 21, 1938 in Cordele, Ga to the late Ernest Mills and the late Willie Lee Batson Mills. He is survived by his loving wife Linda of 59 years, his children Rusty Mills (Carmella Brown) of Plant City, Florida, Susan Cape (Jody) of West Point, Georgia, and Shannon DeBeer (David) of LaGrange, Kentucky; Grandchildren Abigail Barker, Amaya Barker, Jacob Barker, Megan Barker (John) ,Jessica Mayer (Bradly), Payton Debeer, and Alex DeBeer; Great grandchildren Emily Mayer, Maddy Mayer, William Mayer, Brooke Bess, and Luke Bess, and His loving dog Gabe who was at his side until the end.
Marvin served in the National Guard until beginning a lifelong career in the restaurant industry. Before retiring home to southern Georgia, he spent the last 18 years of his career as an Operational Partner with Papa Johns, Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida. Marvin was respected and beloved by all that met him for his wit, kindness and easy-going nature. He had a passion for softball and played competitively as a pitcher with a mean knuckle ball and 3rd basemen until his mid-70’s. Whether coaching or playing he could often be heard saying “Let’s get 20” as he entered the dugout for his team’s turn at bat. He had many roles over the years from father, to coach and most of all a friend to whomever he met. The only passion equal to his love for the game was the love for his family. He cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his sister Nita who passed just a few weeks after him. They are surely having a wonderful reunion in Heaven. His loss to his family is immense, but his impact on this earth with carry on through the many generations that he nurtured. Until we see him again in Heaven we know for now that he is “Safe at Home”.
Due to current restrictions, a private memorial service will be held at West Point United Methodist Church. Reverend Erik Mays will officiate.
To the Mills family. Marvin was a kind and gentle spirit. We were neighbor's in 70's in Verna Hills Subdivision in Winchester, Ky. Linda was were instrumental in my Christian walk with God. In Christ love, Sharon Brumagen Gray.
My dad was born on a Thursday , just a regular Thursday to anyone else but to the future family and friends it was their lucky day. My dad was a good son , brother, husband, father ,grand father, and friend . He enjoyed helping others and I think he preferred that to helping himself. My Daddy was a proud man and always worked hard to provide for the family. He loved all us kids especially me being the favorite son and by the way only son. I think my dad should have been a teacher because he had a way to explain things that was gentle and understanding. Over the last few years his health had declined and he was not physically able to keep working and doing things he loved which took the light out of him. Seeing his health fail him is very hard to watch even from a distance. My dad died on a Sunday not just any Sunday it was the day Jesus drafted a new third baseman. You will be missed because you were loved by so many. Love you dad till we meet again
I just saw this post on Facebook. I am so sorry. You and you will always be in my prayers. I wish I could express my condolences in person, but this will have to do for now. I'm I love you more than words can say. I desperately hope pray for God to restore all that has been lost. You and Marvin were a family to me when I needed one. I'm sure my parents (Henry and Martha) welcomed him home along with our pets. I LOVE you.

This is a huge loss to all who knew Marvin. I loved this man. He was a great boss, friend, mentor and person! I am very thankful to have spent a good deal of time with him while he was the operational partner at Papa John's. He will truly be missed. Rest easy my friend. You have done your time here and touched so many lives. Rest easy at the side of our Lord! God bless you and all you have left behind.
