Carolyn “Cookie” Truitt, was born January 24, 1950, in Fairfax, Alabama,
passed away peacefully in her sleep in Valley, Alabama, on December 4,
2025. She was 75 years old.
Known lovingly as “Cookie”, she was truly sweet as her name. Growing up,
she was the fun and stylish aunt everyone wanted to be around—the “cool
Auntie”. She took her nieces to get their ears pierced (much to her sister’s
shock and fury, which still brings smiles and laughter to the family). Auntie
Cookie took the children to movies, fun outings, and adventures because she
wanted them to experience joy. She would always do our hair so pretty for
our school pictures. She required hugs and kisses from every acquaintance.
Her home was always the place to be—a space filled with energy, warmth,
and memories. In Boston, she threw the best parties, ones that family and
friends still talk about today.
Cookie made Alabama her home after relocating in April of 1992, and she
continued to be a source of joy and hospitality. She lived to entertain and
always welcomed people with open arms and delicious food. Her liver with
onion gravy over rice was legendary, and her macaroni salad became a staple
at gatherings. Cooking was her love language.
Stylish to her core, Cookie absolutely adored clothes—she had more than she
needed but exactly as many as she wanted. Her outfits were always on point, perfectly coordinated from her shoes to her pocketbook, to her accessories.
Her daughter, Aundrea, carries that same sense of style, a gift passed down
with love.
Cookie cherished her family deeply and constantly encouraged closeness,
togetherness, and unity. Her faith was a guiding part of her life; she believed
in Christ and established a relationship with Him early on, grounding her
spirit with strength and grace.
Carolyn was preceded in death by: her parents, Ruby Lee Truitt and
Josephine James Truitt; her lifelong best girlfriend, Corine Jews; and, her
longtime love, Mr. Leon Marshall. Cookie was the last surviving sibling in
her family, yet she never stopped loving, giving, and creating joy for everyone
around her.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Keith Truitt, Bessemer, AL;
her devoted daughter, Aundrea Truitt, Valley, AL, who lovingly cared for her
until her passing.; her grandchildren, Alyssa Breen, Boston, MA, Bianca T.
Gay (Kevin) Cormier, Dallas, TX; three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Jah’nya,
and Jakari Cormier, Dallas, TX; her oldest uncle, Joseph James; nephew,
Anthony Jeffreys, Cusseta, AL; nieces, Robin Jeffreys, Boston, MA, Desiree
(Arthur) Potts, Wetumpka, AL, and Titia Jeffreys, Boston, MA; oldest cousin,
Alton Tucker; nieces and nephews; a host of cousins, family members,
friends, and many other special friends who often referred to her as momma.
She also leaves behind her cherished fur baby, Leili, who brought her endless
comfort.
Her sweet spirit, her style, her humor, and her love will be deeply missed.
But, her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the countless
memories she created.
