Estella McCulloh Davis was born April 18, 1934 to Mr. John McCulloh
and Mrs. Minnie Pearl Griffin McCulloh of Lee County, Alabama.
Mrs. Davis confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Hill
Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend R. C.
Gates. She worked faithfully as a member of the Missionary Society, with
other auxiliaries of the church, and served as President of the Pastorโs
Aide.
Mrs. Davis attended elementary school at Pleasant Hill in the Beulah
Community and graduated from Lanier High School in Lanett, Alabama.
After she married in 1955, she and her husband moved to Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania where they connected with family who migrated there
earlier. While living in West Philadelphia, she united with the Mt. Zion
Baptist Church, worked and made lifelong friends. She continued her
education and received a nursing degree, which lead to a professional
career as a nurse at Home of the Merciful Savior for Crippled Children
(HMS), the first institution of its kind in the nation. She worked at HMS
for many years until she retired. She moved back to Valley in 1999 where
she reconnected with family and reunited with her home churchโ
Pleasant Hill, working faithfully with various ministries.
She loved her family immensely. Even though she lived many years in
Philadelphia, she always came home to visit her parents, sisters, and
other relatives. She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and
showed it in numerous ways. Her generous spirit was displayed through
her passion for helping others. Her hobbies included a love of fashion
and baking. For her, shopping was an art form and she had an eye for
aesthetically designed pieces. She baked cakes and candy, mostly to give
as gifts to friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Homer Davis; parents,
John and Minnie Pearl McCulloh; and four sisters, Mattie Stephens,
Hattie Murphy, Rhoda McCulloh and Nan Cochran. Estella M. Davis
departed this life peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2024.
