Mr. Willie Gene "Jo Jo" Stevens, a resident of Cusseta, AL, died Thursday, July 9, 2026 at his residence.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. (EST) from Burrell Chapel A.M.E. Church, 639 Lee Road 276, Cusseta, AL, Rev. Wayne Baker, Pastor/Officiant.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 5231 County Road 389, Cusseta, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. (EST) at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.
Mr. Willie Gene Stevens was born on January 25, 1949 to the late Mr. Thomas Frank Stevens and Mrs. Ruby Frazier Stevens. At an early age, he confessed Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Burrell Chapel A.M.E. Church where he remained until his death.
“Jo Jo”, as he was affectionately known, was loved by all who knew him. He always greeted those he met with a warm handshake or a smile. He loved working in his garden, riding his lawnmower, and attending the Beulah Center. He loved sharing vegetables he grew in his garden with not only his neighbors, but with anyone who asked. He served his country in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his sister, Velma Snipes.
“Jo Jo” gained his wings and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2026 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.
His memory lives on in the hearts of: his devoted wife of 42 years, Virginia Stevens, Cusseta, AL; daughter, Leslie (Marcellus) Benton, Cusseta, AL; son, Willie Harper, Montgomery, AL; granddaughter, LaCresa Benton, Cusseta, AL; sister, Frances (Lonzie) Portis; brother, Royzell Stevens; two god daughters, Autumn Faith McCants and Alexis Murphy; brothers-in-love, Lamar (Carla) Harper, Larry (Norma) Harper, Kenny Harper and George Harper; sisters-in-love, Frances Harper, Mary (Jerry) Phillips and Ruby Dean Moss; special friends who were like family, Mattie Word, Connie Harper, Angela Mangram, William Payne and Andrew Butler, Jr.; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
