Mr. James Travis, a resident of Lanett, AL, died Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Bethany House Hospice, Auburn, AL.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. (EST) from Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel, 305 W. F. Burns Drive, Valley, AL, Rev. David Benton, Officiant and Rev. Arthur Thomas, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, County Road 389, Cusseta, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Monday, February 5, 2024 at Davis Memorial Mortuary from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. (EST).
God gives good gifts… and on February 27, 1933 he blessed Frank
Travick and Ada Boyd Travick with a bouncing baby boy and they
named him James.
James grew up in the Greenwood Community and received his education
in the Chambers County School System. He confessed Christ at an early
age and joined Greenwood Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama where he
served for many years as an ordained Deacon. Later, he united with Mt.
Nebo Baptist Church in Cusseta, Alabama.
He was an industrious person and worked many years for West Point
Pepperell Mills and as a very skilled auto mechanic. His hobbies included
fishing, hunting, watching sports, playing checkers, and singing.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Frank Travick and Ada Travick;
his beloved wife of 60 plus years, Missouri Reese Travis; a son, Norbert
E. Travis; grandson, Jarvis Travis; great-grandsons, D’Martino Travis
and Quay Banks; six brothers, four sisters, six brothers-in-law, and two
sisters-in-law.
After a brief illness, God called him to receive his eternal reward on
Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving and devoted son, Jarvis
Keith (Dorothy) Travis, Lanett, AL; daughters, Sheila Lovelace, Stone
Mountain, GA, Joanne (Calvin) Williams, West Point, GA and Patricia
Crump, Opelika, AL; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Sceabron (Betty) Travick, one
brother-in-law, Eddie Reese; those he affectionately called his children,
Brenda and Gary Wright; devoted caregivers, Mary and Marvin Reese;
and, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
