Mr. Benjamin Asbury "Ben" Harris, a resident of Valley, AL, died Sunday, August 17, 2025 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, AL.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. (EST) from Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel, 305 W. F. Burns Drive, Valley, AL, Rev. Raymond B. Swafford, Presiding Elder, Tuskegee District, Officiating and Rev. Alvelyn Sanders Swafford, Supply Pastor of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, Lanett, AL, and District Consultant of the Tuskegee District, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, 2167 22nd Street SW, Lanett, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. (EST) at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.
Benjamin Asbury Harris was born November 28, 1942 to the late Mr. Desi B Harris and Mrs. Odessa Pollard Harris in West Point, Georgia.
“Ben” as he was affectionately called, was a member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lanett, Alabama and served faithfully as an usher until declining health.
During his career, he was employed by the City of Lanett, AL as a Police Officer and Private Investigator,
and the West Point Foundry, West Point, GA. His hobbies included, gardening and volunteering at the Diversicare Healthcare Facility where he would visit with and pray for the residents.
Mr. Harris served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Desi B Harris and Odessa Pollard Harris; two sisters, Betty Jean Malone and Dessa Mackey; a grandson, Jacalvis Darden; and, a granddaughter, Trinity Robinson.
Mr. Benjamin A. Harris departed this life on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
He is survived by: his five children, Altanua “Tammy” (Calvin) Darden, Shorod Harris, Sonja Lovelace (Otis) DeLoney, Octavious Benjamin Sims, and Shamilya Dawson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and, a host of nieces, nephews, his devoted caregivers, Otis DeLoney and Cynthia Lloyd, and friends.
