Floyd, Mr. Arthur James, Sr., a resident of Valley, AL, died Saturday, March 28, 2020 at EAMC-Lanier Memorial in Valley, Alabama.
Graveside Services are scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2020 at 12:00 Noon from Fairview Cemetery, Valley, Alabama with Rev. Larry Threatts officiating. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. from Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.
Arthur James Floyd, Sr. was born February 29, 1940 to the late Roy and Musie Finch Floyd, Sr. in Salem, Alabama. Arthur was summoned to his eternal home on Saturday, March 28, 2020 from EAMC-Lanier Memorial in Valley, Alabama.
Arthur accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of the St. Stephens C.M.E. Church in Valley, Alabama. He served as a Steward, Trustee and the Church Treasurer. He loved and worked with a steadfast dedication to the church until his health declined.
Arthur was educated in the Lee County School System, graduating in the Class of 1961 from Wacoochee High School. He then attended Miles College. He later enrolled in Southern Union State Jr. College where he received a certification in woodworking.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late JoAnn Barnes Floyd. This union of 54 years was blessed with five children—Mershilia, Felicia, Miranda, Arthur James, Jr. and Zikia. JoAnn later started a gospel group known as “The Floyd Sisters” and Arthur was the manager as they traveled near and far spreading the gospel through songs of praise to the Almighty.
Arthur started his work career as a teenager, working for Bland’s Landing, a restaurant that was on Lake Harding. He retired from West Point Stevens after 40 years of service. He was a supervisor in the Martex Warehouse. He worked at Bland’s Home Improvement in the Beulah Community after retiring for many years until his health began to fail. He was a hardworking man, a praying man and a family man. He showed his love for God, his family and his fellowman through his work and his kindness.
In addition to his wife and parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his daughter, Miranda LaShell Floyd; three brothers, Roy Floyd Jr., Exer Lee Floyd and Nelson Floyd, Sr.
A lifetime of memories will be cherished by: his loving children, Mershilia (Rodney) Heard, Valley, AL, Felicia (Jeffery) Brown, Montgomery, AL, Zikia Floyd, Valley, AL, Arthur (Metia) Floyd, Jr., Maudin, SC, Deborah (Don) Turner, LaFayette, AL, Donald (Daphne) Burton, Lanett, AL and Carl (Barbara) Core, Valley, AL; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Lottie) Floyd, Sr., Valley, AL; three sisters, Affie Chambers and Edith Coleman both of Valley, AL and Ida Floyd, Chicago, IL; four sisters-in-law, Gwen Thomas, Valley, AL, Barbara Williams, Daphne (Semester) Grimes both of Montgomery, AL and Marionette Carter, St. Petersburg, FL; three brothers-in-law, Walter (Virginia) Madry, Valley, AL, Wayne Madry, Statesville NC and Timothy (Linda) Madry, Tallahassee, FL; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
