Wanda Gail Birchfield Allen passed away on July 8th, 2025, at her home in Lanett, Alabama, surrounded by her family. She was 77 years old. Diagnosed with colon cancer almost 2 years ago, she bravely underwent several surgeries and rounds of treatment. Though ultimately unsuccessful, she approached it with the same steadfast will and determination shown throughout her life.
Wanda is survived by Herschel Allen, her husband of 56 years, her sons Jody and Don, and her grandchildren Emili and Mei. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Wynelle and Milton Birchfield, and her brothers and sister, Glen, Tony, and Diane.
Professionally, she worked as a bank teller to help support her family for many years, a skill that she ultimately leveraged as a business owner and entrepreneur.
In her personal life, she challenged herself to be the best at everything she did. Whether on the softball field, bowling lane, or golf course, she strove to constantly improve and compete. More than competition, she loved playing sports with her friends. It was one of the great joys of her life.
A small gathering will be held from 11 am to noon on Saturday, July 12th, followed by a funeral ceremony. Both will be held in Calvary Baptist Church, 2420 South Phillips Road in Lanett.
In lieu of flowers, donate to Tunnell To Towers or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The staff at Valley-Point Funeral Home & Cremation is honored to serve the Family of Wanda Gail Birchfield Allen.
