Obituary For Patricia ( Pat ) Mayes

Patricia Ann Mayes, 91, of West Point, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange, Georgia on the early morning of January 27th.

Her journey began June 15, 1933, just as the nation was grappling with the depths of the Great Depression. Born to Louise and Charlie D. Adams in Carroll County, Georgia, Patricia's early years were spent on the family farm, where she learned the values of simplicity, resourcefulness, and appreciation for life's fundamental truths and simple gifts.
From these humble beginnings, where wants took a back seat to need, determination was abundant, Patricia built a life rich in experiences and accomplishments. She attended the University of Georgia in her early years, launching herself into a world far beyond the farm of her childhood. Her professional path was marked by versatility and achievement, from serving in administrative roles in the Troup County School System to working in the offices of Stran Steel. She later found her voice as a feature reporter for the Cleveland Banner Newspaper, where she shared the stories of her community with grace and insight.

Though she traveled the world and became known for both her accomplishments and grace, Pat never lost touch with the wisdom gained from her simple beginnings. In her later years, she reflected with characteristic grace, "I felt rich just to be in a house that was warm in the winter, cool in the summer with running water that didn't freeze" — a testament to her enduring appreciation for life's simpler treasures.
Known for her extraordinary generosity of spirit, Patricia touched countless lives through her gracious nature and devotion to those around her. She had a special gift for friendship, nurturing deep and lasting connections with those closest to her. Her genuine warmth and caring spirit made her a treasured presence in the lives of all who knew her.

A woman of faith, Patricia was a devoted member of West Point Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher, demonstrating her spiritual leadership and commitment to her congregation.

She is survived by her loving family: daughter Julianne McCannon of Kennesaw, sons Kerry Franks and Kevin Franks, both of West Point, GA, and daughters-in-law Jan Franks and Christy Franks. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who were blessed to know her. Pat was preceded in death by her late husband Joe Mayes.

The family will welcome visitors for visitation at 10:00 AM on Thursday January 30, at West Point Presbyterian Church, followed by funeral services at 11:00.

Patricia's warm presence, dedication to her community, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her life's journey from a Depression-era farm to a life well-lived serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us that true wealth lies not In material possessions but in the warmth of home, family, and friendship and the lives we touch along the way.
