Joyce was living in Columbus, Georgia at the time of her death, but had lived in Lanett until three years ago. Joyce was born in Lanett to Horald Hugo and Mollie Frankie Sorrell on June 10, 1930. Joyce was a graduate of Lanett High School and enjoyed a long working career. Joyce worked for Interstate Telephone Company, then the corporate offices of West Point Stevens, and finished her working career with Charter Bank. Joyce was a very dependable worker and always gave her best efforts to each of her employers.
Joyce was a faithful member of Community Chapel Church of God. Joyce served in many positions in the church, but her favorite position was singing in the choir. Joyce loved music and enjoyed singing until the very end of her life. Even when she had trouble remembering names and faces, she could always sing every word of any hymn without any hesitation.
Joyce had nephews and a niece which she loved very much and as if they were her own children. Joyce was a very loving, caring, and giving person. She always wanted to help others in any way she could. Her smile and loving personality will be missed by all those who knew her. We all know she is now in a place where she will suffer no more and enjoy singing with the saints every day.
Joyce is survived by sisters Annie Ruth Belcher Miles of Lanett and Hylance Golden Mahan of Odessa, Texas, and brother Hugh (Paula) Sorrell of Columbus, Georgia. Also nephews Joe (Pat) Belcher of Canton, Georgia, Bob (Joy) Belcher of Lanett, David (Laura) Golden of Lagrange, Texas, Benjamin (Shannon) Sorrell of Columbus, Georgia, John (Lindy) Sorrell of Montgomery, Alabama and niece Peggy (Bill) Webb of Decatur, Alabama. In addition, she had five great nephews, five great nieces, and two great great nieces.
The family wishes to express its great appreciation to the staff at Orchard View Nursing Home in Columbus for the care and love extended to Joyce during the last years of her life.
Flowers will be accepted or a donation in her memory to The Alzheimer’s Association.
I will miss you dear friend! Rest in the Lord's loving arms.
