Jimmy Victor Bartlett, 76, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025 surrounded by family and his lifelong friend. Born on December 30, 1948, he was the son of the late Leonard and Lillian Bartlett.
Jimmy's early life began in Dubuque, Iowa, where he lived with his parents for a couple of years before settling in West Point, GA. To him, West Point was his hometown.
Jimmy met his future wife, Billie Jean VanHouten, at Shawmut Circle; shortly after, they began dating and married on March 7, 1966. Billie brought one son into the marriage, and together, they had two children.
Jimmy launched his professional painting career with Merritt Brothers, where he was guided by his Uncle Pete Woodall and Junior Miles, who instructed him in the art of painting homes. Later, he was employed by Jimmy White for a few years. Before long, he realized his desire to start his own business. Throughout the years, Jimmy built a highly esteemed and in-demand painting crew in the West Point-Valley area.
Jimmy had a wide range of hobbies. He was an outdoorsman at heart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and observing birds from the comfort of his porch. He was also a dedicated fan of the Georgia Bulldawgs. Additionally, he had a strong interest in American muscle cars, with a particular fondness for Mopar. He and his son would often engage in restoring classic Mopar vehicles to their original state of excellence.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lillian Bartlett, his son Adam Bartlett, and his two great-granddaughters Emily VanHouten and Louella Burke.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 59 and a half years, Billie Bartlett. His stepson, Barry (Carolyn) VanHouten, and his daughter, Lori (Cal) Harrell. His grandchildren, Frank Harrell, Lillian (Steve Box) Harrell, James Harrell, Shyanne VanHouten, Katie VanHouten, Cierra VanHouten, Kaitlyn Bartlett, and Addison Bartlett. His great-granddaughters Evie VanHouten, Lilly Burke, and Rosie Burke. Numerous nephews and nieces, and extended family. Also, two very special people, Larry Butler and Joe Lott.
Visitation will be held at Valley-Point Funeral Home in Lanett, Alabama on Thursday, August 21st, at 1:00 pm EST, with the service following at 2:00 pm EST.
