Mrs. Geraldine Stilwell, 90 year old resident of Lanett passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Bethany House in Auburn.
The family will greet friends Friday June 23, 2017 from 5:00 PM EDT to 7:00 PM EDT at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Saturday June 24, 2017 at 1:00 PM EDT at the First Baptist Church of Lanett with Reverends Ronnie Jordan, Mark McGee and Gene Webb officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Lanett, Alabama.
Mrs. Geraldine “Mee-Maw” was born Monday, January 24, 1927 to the late Harvey Yates and Phossie Willoughby Yates. She was a long time employee of Valley National Bank. After retirement, she worked many years for Charter Bank.
She was an active member of various civic clubs, but her true passion was her church, Lanett First Baptist. She was actively engaged in the ministry to provide meals for bereaved families, and was well known for her sweet potato casserole.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis Edwin Stilwell and is survived by four children: Lewis Stilwell Jr. (Joy) of Columbus, GA; Jane Duskin of West Point, GA; Steve Stilwell (Sherry) of Valley, AL; and Ted Stilwell of Lanett, AL; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She showed us how to live and die with grace. We hope we can live up to the standard she set.
If personal worth was measured by one’s enrichment of others’ lives, then she would have been a person of great wealth.
Send flowers to the service of Geraldine Stilwell
My deepest condolences to the Stilwell family, may you find comfort in prayer and the beautiful words of Revelation 21:3,4 where God promises us that He will soon eliminate all death and suffering.
You are so loved and will be greatly missed.
