George Ronald Smith, known lovingly as Uncle Bubba, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 56. He was a resident of LaGrange, Georgia, and was born in Valley, Alabama, to Ronald G. Smith and Sue H. Smith.
George was a proud graduate of Troup High School in LaGrange, earning the honor of valedictorian for the class of 1987. He continued his education at Mercer University, where he received a degree in mechanical engineering, then went on to Georgia Tech for his master’s degree. He built a successful career as a systems engineer, specializing in the design of conveyor systems for industrial facilities and airport operations. George approached every challenge with curiosity and dedication, and he took great pride in his work.
George fought valiantly against a brain tumor for seventeen years. He faced this long challenge head-on with bravery, resilience, and an enduring love for life. Even through years of illness, he never lost his kindness or his appreciation for the small joys that filled his days.
George was a gentle soul who was kind, soft spoken, and known for a unique sense of humor that quietly brightened the lives of those around him. He enjoyed traveling and had a special love for Disney theme parks. He collected stamps, watched Britcoms, and cherished the company of his beloved cats, who brought him joy every day. He loved quietly but deeply, and his steady presence was a comfort to everyone close to him. George was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and valued the fellowship and community he found there.
He is survived by his parents, Ronald G. Smith and Sue H. Smith of West Point, Georgia. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy Smith Huff, and his brother-in-law, Lamar Paul Huff, both of LaGrange, Georgia. He leaves behind his nephew, Carson Paul Huff of Atlanta, Georgia.
A celebration of life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Point, Georgia, on January 3rd, 2026. The time will be announced once finalized. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider a donation to St. John's Episcopal Church in West Point, GA. Another option is donating to your local animal shelter in honor of his love for cats.
The family would like to thank the friends and relatives who supported George throughout his long journey and stood beside him with love, patience, and strength. We take comfort knowing that George is at peace, and we carry his love with us always. May his memory be a blessing.
