Obituary For Nathan E. Truitt Jr.

We respectfully announce the passing of Mr. Nathan E. Truitt Jr., age 78, of Hogansville, Georgia on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Springfield Baptist Church located at 400 Poplar Street, Hogansville, Georgia 30230. Bishop Collier Starks will officiate and interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Hogansville.

Public viewing will be Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.

The Family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of Service.

Due to COVID-19 concerns everyone in attendance at the viewing and the Funeral must wear a mask and social distancing is encouraged.

Nathan Ernest Truitt, Jr. was born April 7, 1943 in Hogansville, Ga to the late Nathan E. Truitt, Sr. and Inez Jennings Truitt. Nathan, affectionately called “Bubba,” has always had a heart for people and never met a stranger as evidenced by the many friends and family members who enjoyed his company throughout his lifetime.

Nathan lived a full and exciting life. He logged hundreds of thousands of miles and countless hours as a long-haul truck driver before retiring. His love of adventure began at West End High School where he participated in scouting, chorus, basketball, and Future Farmers of America. After graduating in 1961, he attended Morris Brown College and was an active member of the choir until Nathan chose to defend his country and joined the U.S Airforce, fulfilling his dream to be a Mechanical Engineer. In 1968, he began working at the Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport for Southern Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. One very important aspect of Nathan’s life was his relationship with the Lord, which was rekindled and strengthened during his active, servant membership at Berean Bible Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Because of the declining health of his parents, Nathan moved back to Hogansville to become a caregiver to them both. There he reunited with Springfield Baptist Church and quickly resumed his service in many roles: audio/visual engineer, Deacon, and Trustee Board Member. There was never a job too big or too small in service to his church or to his community. Nathan even served as a poll worker during several local and state elections.

In his spare time, Bubba enjoyed fishing with his childhood friend, Danny, firing up the grill and deep fryer for those fried ribs, and playing a friendly game of cards. Continuing his father’s penchant for holistic living, his self-made, front-yard garden with vegetables and herbs primed for natural healing, became a passion of his. Let’s not forget his commitment to environmentally safe cleaning supplies!

There is no denying that Nathan loved his family, particularly his children and grandchildren. Nathan and Mary Ann Black were married for many years before they divorced, but not before sharing love and dedication for their two children, Kalya LaKesha and Nathan, III. Nathan later met and married Catherine Lowe; although they divorced, they remained good friends until his death. Spending time with his grandchildren, for whom he would move mountains, was the highlight of his life. Playing “the giant” with them from the time they were babies and attending their sporting events and activities brought him never-ending joy. Nathan’s sister, Lynell and his brother, Tommy, preceded his death and Nathan will be cherished eternally by his brother-in-law, William (Vivian Lynell, d. 2017) Brown, his sister, F. LaVerne Truitt-Hall (Lawrence, d. 2007), and his brother Benny Ray Truitt (Rosalyn). His children continue to honor him: daughter, Kesha Maze (Martin); son Nathan Truitt III (Trisha). His three grandchildren will forever remember him: Martin Maze Jr, Jonathan Maze, and Mariah Maze. His nieces will always celebrate him, Macquelyn Brown and Joslyn Racine Wynn (Spergon), and his cousins Eric Truitt and Debra (Eric) Amos, along with a host of family members and friends, will think of him often…and smile.
