We respectfully announce the passing of Mr. Leon Porter, age 77, of Fayetteville, Georgia on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at St. Mary United Methodist Church Cemetery located at 100 Pine Street in Hogansville. Pastor Elaine Gilbert, Eulogist. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 12:00 Noon to 7:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 concerns everyone in attendance at the viewing and the graveside MUST WEAR A MASK and social distancing is encouraged.
On June 14, 1944, Leon Porter was born in Hogansville, Georgia to his parents Roy Porter, Sr. (deceased: 1966) and Estella Cook. He was from a large family, being the ninth (9th) brother of ten (10) siblings: Roy Porter, Jr. (deceased: 1996; Spouse: Beatrice); Garfield Owen Porter (deceased: 2010; spouse: Benthina); Carrie Ethel Porter Ruggs (deceased: 2014; spouse Roosevelt); Jesse Mae Porter Hardaway (deceased: 2021; spouse: Eddie); Eugene Porter (deceased: 1959); Nelson Alvin Porter (deceased: 1993; spouse: Dorthy); Melson Calvin Porter (deceased: 2020; spouse: Mary); Elmira Porter Davenport (deceased: 2019; spouse: Charles); and Donald Porter.
Leon attended Ethel W. Kite High school in Hogansville, Georgia and graduated with the Class of 1962. He was a man of faith, and a member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church. In January of 1964, Leon married the love of his life, Lola Mae Lakes. This union was blessed with three (3) children, and five (5) grandchildren. After thirty-one (31) years of dedicated service, Leon retired from General Motors and resided in Fayetteville, Georgia until his passing.
Leon will always be remembered as a beloved husband, a dedicated father, and a loving grandfather to his family. All of those that knew him, knew him to be a great man, a true friend, and was like a father to many. Leon suddenly passed away from a congenial heart condition. He leaves behind his loving wife Lola Mae (Lakes) Porter; his youngest brother, Donald Porter; his three (3) children, whom call him “Daddy”: Leon “Gel” Fitzgerald Porter (spouse: Michelle); Ingrid “Nene” Vernise Porter Page (spouse: Ronald); and Maurya “Rabbit” Latrice Porter; his five (5) grandchildren, whom call him “Poppy”: Nicole Elyse Porter; Tiera Shanee’ Page; Brashiek Le’Jane Porter (deceased: 2015); Melody Patrice Page; and Justin Deon Porter, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
