Hosiah "Sonny" Thompson, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully in his home in Hogansville, GA, on August 23, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.
Sonny was born on April 12, 1934, in St. Marks, GA, to the late Grace Thompson (Snelling) and Henry G. Rosser.
He was a devoted family man, who leaves behind an enduring legacy of hard work and strength. He is survived by his children, Marvin Louis (Lynn) Snelling, Janet Patricia (Leroy) Parks, Joe Ann Parks, Sharon Louise (Bobby) Bussey, Sylvia Arnold, Hosiah Thompson, Jr., Berlinda Dianne McIntyre, Angelia LaRose (Gerald) Irving, James Curtis (LaDonna) Boddie; sister, Deborah Carter; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Snelling, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who will miss him dearly.
Throughout his life, Sonny wore many hats. He was a skilled roofer and farmer, before retiring from the Uniroyal Tire Company as a Foreman. His work ethic was unparalleled, but it was not just his professional accomplishments that defined him. He had an unwavering passion for the outdoors, fishing, hunting and farming, whenever he could find the time.
However, above all else, were the cherished moments he spent with his friends, the late Mr. Henry Blount, Mr. Clarence Jackson, and Mr. Roy Porter. They were more than just friends; they were his brothers in arms through thick and thin. But perhaps the most significant part of Sonny's life story was the love of his life, his dear wife, Rosetta F. Thompson, whom he shared over 71 years of marriage prior to her passing.
On August 23, 2024, Sonny and Rosetta reunited. Preceding him in death, include, his son, Hosie Lee Thompson; his siblings, Helen Freeman, Willie "Bizzie" Hunter, Laura Bell Snelling, Willie Ed Snelling, Ronald Carter, and Henry Rosser, along with his adopted parents, Willie M. and Mary Thompson.
While we mourn the loss deeply today, we also celebrate the incredible life he lived. A life filled with love, hard work, friendship, wisdom, and laughter.
Arrangements entrusted to Thrash and Sons Funeral Home.

Hi Daddy, as I start to pull up the old plants in my garden; through tearing eyes, I will remember what you taught me about how to make things grow. Your teachings down here has ended and I want to thank you. You and Rose kept a roof over our heads and food in our stomach. We had clothes on our back and shoes on our feet. You both always shared with others and made them part of our family. Now you are gardening with Rose, Mac and the Lord. The Lord New what He was doing when He made you our Dad.
My Condolences to you Angie (Gerald) and to your entire family, praying God's comfort and blessings over your lives.

RIP to a great soul!! Him and grandma Rose took me in like I was one of their own grand children. They were big on family. From the thanksgiving dinners on their property, to them coming to Florida to visit. I'll always remember that smile, I never saw him without one. I remember going fishing with him and uncle skip one morning when I was about 8 years old. I never seen anyone put planter peanuts in a coke, but man was that some good stuff. Get your rest sir, I know you're looking down on all of us just smiling and happy. Give grandma rose a kiss for all of us as well.
Love Oshay
