Ernestine Hunter was born January 10, 1942 to the late, Josephine Rosser in Lone Oak, GA. She passed away peacefully, on April 15, 2020.
Ernestine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a life-long member of St. Paul CME church in Lone Oak. She served in many capacities but loved working on the Missionary Board. She served God at St. Paul until she was unable. Ernestine attended the Lone Oak School and graduated from Greenville High School in 1960. At, Greenville she was a good student and played basketball. After graduation, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to live with her sisters, Barbara Gray and Christine Jones. Not being able to acclimate to the cold weather Ernestine moved back to Atlanta. In August of 1964, she married Troy H. Hunter Jr. Together, they had two children. They lived in Southwest Atlanta for many years and made long time friendships in their community. She later moved to Union City, Georgia where she lived until being placed in Christian City Skilled Nursing Home.
An avid gardener. She loved working in her yard. She also loved sports and cooking. She was known for her kin sense of style and never met a stranger. Ernestine worked for Macy’s for over 35 years. She worked briefly at the Kroger in Union City after retiring from Macy’s.
Ernestine leaves behind to cherish her memory, two children, Stacey U. Fountain (Derrick) and Daryl C. Hunter (Alnita). Three grandchildren, Derrick (DJ) Fountain, Briana Fountain and Cierra Fountain. Her sisters, Barbara Gray and her twin sister, Christine Jones. Three nieces Paula Gray, Angela Sewell and Rhonda Sewell. A host of family and friends.
A private service for immediate family members only will be held in honor of Ernestine Hunter at the St. Paul CME Church Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. James C. Clements, Officiating.
