Obituary For Clifford Lewis Dunson Sr.
We respectfully announce the passing of Mr. Clifford Lewis Dunson Sr., age 77, of Corinth, Georgia on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Piedmont Newnan Healthcare.
Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Wadley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery located at 2515 Coweta-Heard Road in Corinth, Georgia. Rev. Rodney Grier, Pastor and Minister Ricky Griffin, Eulogist.
Public viewing will be Friday, June 5, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a limited number of people at the Graveside Service and during the Public viewing only 3 people at one time in the Funeral Home with social distancing of 6 feet. PLEASE WEAR MASK.
Clifford (Cliff) Lewis Dunson Sr. was born on April 29, 1943 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dunson of Hogansville, Georgia. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Harmonia CME Church in Corinth, Georgia.
Cliff attended Mary Johnson School in Heard County. Being the hard worker and dedicated family man he was, he left school at an early age and began his career in the pulpwood business to provide for his mother and siblings.
Cliff was employed for many years at Williamson Pulpwood and Timber Company in LaGrange, Ga. It was here that his talent, expertise, dedication and the love for woodworking began to flourish. A young man, at that time, by the name of Mr. Mack Reynolds was looking for someone to do a particular job for him concerning land and wood. When he asked the owner for recommendations, the owner described Clifford Dunson as the “best hand he had.” He is the one that would “do the job right.” This was the beginning of a friendship that morphed into a brotherly bond.
Cliff went on to work for Mr. Mack part-time while working at the “wood yard” and running his own pulpwood truck until he fell ill in 1985. Cliff was not expected to recover and was told he only had three months to live. He was a fighter; he didn’t give up. Cliff won the battle against colon cancer and went on to work for Mr. Mack full-time until life threw another curve ball and he fell ill in 2019. Mr. Mack described Cliff as one he never had to tell what to do; he always knew what to do. He didn’t miss a day of work unless the weather didn’t permit. They talked every morning about the plan for the day; there was nothing Cliff couldn’t do. He surpassed any expectations of a person who didn’t go beyond the 8th grade. He was very successful with his own business and working in general.
Cliff was just as dedicated to his family and friends as he was to his career. No matter what, he would always put other people’s needs before his own. He was a very quiet, gentle man who had a giant heart, a heart of gold that enriched every life he touched. He always spoke of how the good Lord left him on earth in 1985 to help people and that’s what he did. He never got it easy. Cliff is described by his family and friends as being a “standup guy,” “a great man,” “always kind and lots of laughs.”
On Thursday, May 28, 2020, Clifford fought his last fight and took rest. He peacefully departed this life at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Therese Diane (daughter), Fredrick “Fred” Lamar (son), Virginia Brown “Ginger” and Evelyn Paige (sisters), Charlie Dunson (brother), Cynthia Dunson (daughter-in-law). Clifford leaves to cherish his memories daughter Felecia Dunson (Robin); three sons Clifford Jr. “Junebug”, David Matthew “Goose”, Rexton Leon “Bane”, six grandchildren Jamelle, Bryan, Angel, Kinsley, Tyler, and Joshua; one great grandchild Paisleigh; long life friend Mattie Rosser; his sisters Eunice Mitchell, Hazel Ellis (Booker), Ola Stepp (Horace), Velma McClurkin (Dan), Elaine Hamilton (Jerry), Darlene Dunson, Joy Almond and Jacqueline Lawrence; Mr. and Mrs. Mack Reynolds and Family; extended families Mattie John Rosser Family of Hogansville, Ga. and The Dallas/Bonner Family of Breman, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
