Obituary For Charlie Matthews Jr.
We respectfully announce the passing of Mr. Charlie Matthews Jr., age 79, of Grantville, Georgia on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery located on Goldmine Road in Grantville, Georgia. Pastor Johnny Strickland will officiate.
Public viewing will be held on Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Due to COVID-19 concerns everyone in attendance at the Graveside and the public viewing must wear a mask and social distancing is encouraged.
Charlie William Matthews Jr. was born on September 4, 1942 to the late Charlie Matthews Sr. and Cora Matthews. He was born and raised in Grantville, GA. In 1961, he married his wife, the late Lydia Matthews, on February 25. The two had 6 loving children: Richard, Jimmy, Danny, Stevie, Angela and Alisa. Charlie Matthews Jr. was a great father and hard worker; where he retired from Dobbs House.
C.W. was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and had the job of being the Maintenance Man. He was a true handy-man and outdoorsman. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix or put together. He loved his tractors, lawnmowers and planting fruits and vegetables. Every summer, he made sure to plant some watermelons. Charlie Mac didn’t mind planting the watermelons wherever he could. One year he may have had them planted in the back yard and then the next year he had them planted in the front yard. It didn’t matter, as long as he had them planted.
Charlie William Matthews Jr. departed this life on October 2, 2021. His wife, parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
Bro. Charlie Matthews Jr. a loving Father, Papa, Great-Papa, Brother and Friend leaves to cherish his memories: sons- Richard (Carol), Jimmy, Danny (Wife), Stevie (Kate); daughters- Angela (Barron) and Alisa (Gerald). 12 grandchildren: Tineshia, Tirell, Tisheyia, Danielle, Dee, Deontae, Latoya, Deshun, Monique, Daniel, Isabella, and Lydia; 6 great-grandchildren: Aariyanna, Jayden, Jordyn, Skylar, Leya and Jonas; one sister, Emma Benning (Charles), and two brothers James (Mattie) and Fred (Arlena).
