On July 25, 1954 Carolyn Jean Colton was born to Charlie Colton and Catherine Tennie. Carolyn was the seventh child of fifteen. Carolyn grew up in Lone Oak. She loved to cook, grill, fish, garden and spend time with family! Carolyn absolutely adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would always be spotted with one of them. She was the go to for anything you needed to be pickled. All the children in the area knew her as the snack lady and always flocked to her home after school and on the weekends.

Carolyn enjoyed hanging out with family and friends and having a great time! Carolyn was normally the life of the party and was a joy to be around. She loved to make people laugh. She was a great spade and card player and constantly talked trash whenever she played, no matter what the score was. She loved puzzle books and word searches and would carry one with her everywhere. She also loved watching scary movies and drama shows. Everyone knew not to call when the “stories” were on because you would not get an answer until they went off. She especially loved watching Walker Texas Ranger every night before she went to bed. She loved her some Chuck Norris!

Once Carolyn was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, she did not let that affect her. She moved to the Army base, Ft. Riley, Kansas in 2012 with her youngest son and started to travel the world! This was her first plane ride and when she landed she saw snow as tall as her. She started going to the playground with her grandkids and would also go to bingo games. She loved living in Kansas with its many lakes due to her love of fishing. She was able to catch fish there she had never seen before including a rainbow trout, which was a seasonal fish. She loved being on the Army base where she was able to see helicopters and tanks along with a huge fireworks display for the fourth of July; She could never stop talking about.

After her son left the Army, they all moved back to Georgia where she picked out a house which her son bought, where she lived for the rest of her life. After moving back to Georgia, her life was kicked into hyperdrive with her activities with traveling. She traveled to Tybee Island where she saw a sunrise over the ocean for the first time! She saw sea life first hand including stingrays, jellyfish, crabs and dolphins! Carolyn fell in love with the beach and went back every year! She even fought her fears and walked into the ocean up to her knees with her son. She even let him take her for her very first ride on the back of his motorcycle! She also traveled to North Carolina for a casino trip on a charter bus to Harrah’s Casino. She also took trips to Wetumpka Wind creek Casino Hotels whenever her and her daughter in law were able to go.

As her health declined, she slowed down with traveling and started spending more time with family, friends and gardening. She watched her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow bigger and bigger while attending as many birthdays and get togethers as much as she could. She had an amazing garden she worked very hard on that she ate from. After a while, her son brought home chickens to add to her self-sustainment and happiness. She loved sitting outside watching them!

In the end when Carolyn was called home, she was in her home, smiling and surrounded by her children and grandchildren the way she wanted. She passed away peacefully at the age of 68 after living a full and happy life. Carolyn will be missed dearly, but made sure she left no stone unturned.

Carolyn leaves behind 4 children: Barbara Mitchell, Marjorie (Dexter) Robinson, Stan Titus Colton, and Leconte (Latricia) Jackson. 15 grandkids, and 20 great grandkids.
