Obituary For Martha Lorene Chatman Shelnutt

Mrs. Martha Lorene Chatman Shelnutt, age 85, of Franklin passed away Thursday January 18, 2018.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shelnutt will be conducted Sunday January 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM from New Springs Methodist Church with the Revs. Rodney Roquemore and Cleve Moore officiating. Her body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Shelnutt was born October 1, 1932 in Troup County to the late Herman Lee Chatman and Winnie Mae Laster Chatman. She was a Baptist by faith, and enjoyed reading her Bible daily.

She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and devoted her time to see to their needs as a lifelong housewife and mother. She also loved her neighbor as herself, and was willing to help anyone in times of need.

In her spare time she enjoyed fishing and gardening. She was always proud of having fresh or canned vegetables from her garden to serve at the table.

Survivors include: two sons: Thomas Shelnutt (Melissa) of Roanoke and Andy Shelnutt (Patsy) of Ranburne; three grandchildren: Trent Shelnutt, Wesley Shelnutt, and Kacey Shelnutt; two sisters: Lillian Chatman and Janice Adams both of Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clifton “Hoss” Shelnutt; a grandson, Cody Shelnutt; one sister, Lela Mae Hardy; and seven brothers: Raymond, G. W., Render, Paul, James Kenneth, Henry, and Darden Chatman.

Add A Condolence

This tribute was added by vivian scott on 24th January 2018 "I want to offer my condolences to the Shelnutt family and friends. It is a painful thing to lose a love one in death. Even Jesus gave way to tears when Lazarus died (John 11:35).Take comfort in knowing that our Heavenly Father knows your pain. He calls death an enemy and promised to remove it forever__ 1 Corinthians 15:26 “The last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing”. He also promised to awaken our love ones in the memorial tombs from asleep in death__ Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead will rise ...Awake and shout joyfully you residents in the dust! ...the earth will let those powerless in death come to life. "Then he will “satisfy the desire of every living thing” (Psalms 145:16). Allow these words to keep comforting all of you."
