Our family moved to Ft. Benning in 1980 where we were assigned quarters next door to the Smith family and a few doors from the Hodge family. The Smith, Hodge, and Steed children became both neighborhood and school friends. Vivian Smith, Peggy Hodge, and I being neighbors and the wives of servicemen who were often on duty away from home, learned we had much in common and became immediate friends who learned to depend on each other. The children knew they would be cared for and corrected by either of these three women. Our families became lifelong friends. Even when the families moved to various locations, we stayed in touch. Even when we didn't see each other for long stretches of time, we knew we were still connected. I will miss Vivian, one of my "Forever Friends." Even so, the memories of times we've shared will always be with me. I pray for peace and comfort for all who loved Vivian. Lovingly, Harriet Steed
