Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Valerie English age 62 of Columbus on January 30, 2022
Valerie Althea Jones English was born on January 18, 1960 in Richland, Georgia, the third child of Mr. Prince Edward Jones Sr. and the late Mattie Eva Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 41 years Mr. Stewart E. English of Columbus, Georgia; three daughters: Ashley Scott (Simeon), Kara English, and Bethel Jones (Samuel) all of Columbus, Georgia; four siblings: Cheryl A. Jones - Bell (Nathan) of Detroit Michigan, Karen P. Jones of Columbus, Ga, Prince Jones Jr of Cusseta Ga, and Merry Tate of Columbus, Ga; five grandchildren: Aiden, Noah, Halo, Mila, and Moriah and a host of other family and friends.
Valerie affectionately known as “Val” graduated from Baker High School in 1977. She went to Meadows College and later married her husband November 7, 1980. She retired from the Bradley Center of St. Francis as an adolescent counselor after 20 years. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother, but above all of those things she dedicated her life to her ministry as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Val learned the truth from her mother and grandmother and was baptized in 1974 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. From 2009 to present, after raising her children, she devoted at least 70 hours per month to the ministry, helping others learn about Jehovah and taking care of her aging parents.
In addition to her ministry, she loved her girls; it was always “Val and her girls”. She loved to shop, cook, spend time with her grandchildren, having people over for dinner, travel abroad, and taking pictures. She enjoyed making picture books and giving them to people filled with memories they shared together. She enjoyed delivering goodies to her friends — especially cake and sweet potato pie. Val didn’t know a stranger, she will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Brother Edwin Harris officiating.
