Ms. Shirley Mae Toombs passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the age of 81. She was born on August 9, 1942 to the late Walker Alexander and Ruby Griffin Alexander in Columbus.

God has the last word, and He has spoken. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, He awarded eternal life, with Him, to Shirley A. "Bay" Toombs. She said, "1 am tired, I am weak, I am worn" and He said welcome home and so she did peacefully at her earthly home at the age of 81. Shirley A. Toombs was affectionately known as Bay to her family and friends. She was born in Columbus, Georgia to the late Walker and Ruby Alexander. Bay was a 1960 graduate of William H. Spencer High School and attended Phillips Business College. She was employed for 26 years at West Central Georgia Regional Hospital and 13 years part-time at Dillard's Department Store. She was a pillar of faith as was evident while she lay ill consistently repeated The Lord's Prayer. She was a member of Greater St. Mark A.M.E. Church and it's Shepherd's Care Ministry.
She was full of life, love and laughter and leaves that legacy to her two devoted daughters, who mourns her death, Carol A. Toombs and Pamela S. Toombs both of Columbus, Georgia, a stepson, Benjamin F. Toombs, Jr. (LaToya) of Tampa, Florida, two sisters Wanda Rutledge and Hannah B. Alexander both of Columbus, Georgia, two sisters in law Dwendolyn Alexander of Buffalo, New York and Gloria Alexander of Augusta, Georgia, one uncle Charles Alexander of Columbus, Georgia, Benjamin F. Toombs, Sr. the father of her children1
The Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Toombs will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Greater St. Mark AME with interment at Green Acres Cemetery. Service will be live-streamed (see clickable link below)
Visitation Friday begins at 2 until 5:00 PM at Progressive.

Shirley was such as fun person in my youth growing up with her brother-in law , the late. Ronnie Toombs! She always had a smile and was so generous! She has traveled to be with YAH in heaven but has done her part here on earth. RIP Shirley because u have done a job well done and u will be missed but never forgotten!

Condolences to her Children and family. Shirley graduated with my sister Beverly. They were the best of friends. I knew Shirley she was a lot of fun to be around. I went on their 30th reunion cruise with them and had a ball. She will be truly missed. Prayers for all.
