Mrs. Ruby Nell "Bem" Smith passed away Tuesday at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center at the age of 70.
A native of Seale, AL., and the daughter of the late Jimmy Lee Stanley and Willie Bell Newsome, Mrs. Smith was self employed in Home Healthcare. She was a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Matthews, Jr., a granddaughter, Delores Smith and three brothers, Willie L. Walton, Frederick Stanley and Jonathan Stanley.
Survivors include a devoted husband, James B. "Smitty" Smith; her loving children, Denise L. Johnson(Sir, Sr.), Tanya L. Ruttley (Jermaine), James B. Smith II and Sonya M. Davidson(Michael); 25 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; five brothers, Jimmy Stanley, Jr., Charlie Newsome(Betty), Henry Newsome, Winston Stanley(Mona) and Cleveland Newsome(Vonda); seven sisters, Patricia Hood, Gwendolyn Roberts, Joyce Daniels, Regina Benton, Gloria Newsome, Beverly Stanley and Sharon Newsome; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest at Green Acres Cemetery on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 following a One O'clock PM Homegoing Celebration in the sanctuary of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor David Dawson.
Visitation is 2:00 til 6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
The cortege will depart from 1813 Pine Valley Court Tuesday at 12:15 PM.
