Mr. Reginald Burney passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2025. Born on February 2, 1957, in Washington, D.C., he was the beloved son of Mr. Charles Burney and Mrs. Edna Burney.
Mr. Burney attended schools in the Muscogee County School District and served briefly in the United States Army after his time in high school. He spent much of his life in Washington, D.C., where he retired from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
In 2009, he returned to Columbus, Georgia, to enjoy his retirement.
Reginald was a man of many passions. He found joy in the arts, cooking, gardening, and tackling special projects around the house. His warm spirit and creative energy touched the lives of all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory:

Two sisters, Mrs. Angela Martin (Tim) of Maryland and Mrs. Susan Lathan (Harold) of Dallas, TX
Three daughters: Dr. Keisha Cook (Kevin) and Ms. Rachel Mitchell, both of Columbus, GA, and Ms. Kimani Burney of Alexandria, VA
Two sons: Mr. Tavon Smith of Washington, D.C., and Mr. Reginald Burney Jr. (Barbie) of Newport News, VA
Four grandsons: Arandias Mitchell Jr., Xavier Mitchell, Tristan Burney, and Kamron Cook
One niece: Shauntay Hall
Two nephews: Richard Hall and Lawrence Smith
He is also survived by a host of loving friends.
The family invites close friends and family to a gathering to honor and celebrate Reginald’s life.
The event will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 2220 Tucker Drive, Columbus, GA 31907.
In lieu of a formal funeral service, this gathering will provide an opportunity to share memories and pay tribute to the life of Mr. Reginald Burney. Cards, flowers, and gifts are welcome and may be sent to the address above.
