Major Retired(US Army) Claiborne Randle passed away quietly Monday at his home at the age of 85.
Born in Columbus, MS, Mr. Randle was the son of the late Claiborne, Sr., and Minnie Wilson Randle. He had resided in Columbus since 1969. A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, he retired from the U.S. Army after over 25 years of service, receiving the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal amongst his many medals and awards. He also retired from Columbus Foundry after 10 years. A devout member of New Providence Baptist Church, he had been active with the Ushers and Culinary Ministries and taught Sunday School. Mr. Randle was a Prince Hall Mason, member of Columbus Urban League and had been a Little League Football Coach at Ft. Benning, GA. He also was an outstanding Chef. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, SSG(Ret)Warren Randle and seven siblings, Brenda Stepter, Rosetta Mayberry, Mary L. Bryant, James, Robert, William and Monroe Randle.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 64 years, Hattie L. Randle; six children, PO2(Ret)Rheva Vazquez(Julian), SFC(Ret)Kenneth E. Randle(Cevilla), MSG(Ret)Barry L. Randle(Paulette), SFC(Ret)William A. Randle(Eugenia), PO2 Karen D. Young and SSG(Ret)Kevin D. Randle; sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Amos Randle(Shirley) and Rev. Earnest Randle(Joan); four sisters, Maxine Harding(John), Emma J. Jackson, Elizabeth Simmons(T.W.) and Ruby Burgess; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life For Major Retired Claiborne Randle, Jr. will be conducted Twelve O'clock Noon Saturday, September 11, 2021 in the Chapel of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc with his nephew, Reverend David Bryant officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army Honor Guards.

Mr. Randle was one of the most thoughtful,caring, fair and honorable persons I knew at NPBC. He would let me know he missed me when he didn't see me at church. We lost a great man but he's in a better place. He will be greatly missed.
