Mr. Paul Leonard,Senior passed away peacefully in Columbus, GA on Friday, March 16, 2017 at the age of 94.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Leonard will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with interment at Green Acres Cemetery. Pastor David Stallion will officiate.
Visitation is Friday, 3 til 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paul is survived by his wife of 76 years Mrs. Nettie Mae (Turner) Leonard, and their five children, Paul Leonard, Jr. (Venita), Thomas Leonard (Vernice), Robert J. Leonard, Marvin Leonard, Nettie Pearl Andrews. He is also survived by two siblings, Robert (Pete) Leonard and Elizabeth Williams. He is preceded in death by his parent, Simmie and Lucy (Stephens) Leonard, as well as three brothers, John, Eddie and Simmie Leonard,Jr., and two sisters, Mary Baldwin and Bernice Young.
Paul was born on June 30th on what is now Fort Benning, GA. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and later worked as a civil servant with the Quartermaster division for 38 years. He married Nettie Mae Turner in September of 1942, the couple welcomed five children into their home.
Paul enjoyed playing baseball and softball and played with various teams including Big Red and the Invaders. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a talented singer and enjoyed singing hymns for the Lord. He was an active, dedicated and life long member of Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a Master Mason, and a member of Mount Pisgah Lodge #53.
Besides his children, Paul leaves behind a large legacy of eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
