Nathaniel Gosha III was born January 23, 1937 to the late Nathaniel Gosha Jr. and Eva Mae Gosha in Russell County, Alabama. He departed this life on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Nathaniel was the widower of the late Annie Mae Thomas Gosha. At an early age he accepted Christ at Nichols Chapel AME Church in Phenix City, Alabama where Isaac N. Hudson, Sr. is the Pastor.
Nathaniel was a pioneer in Emergency Medical Services. He was an Emergency Medical Technician. He along with his first wife Sadie McMillian Gosha founded Alabama Ambulance Service in 1966. He continued to be the owner and operator until 2000.
Nathaniel was a licensed funeral director and embalmer with the Alabama Board of Funeral Services from February 1, 1976 until his retirement in February 28, 2019.
Nathaniel was a dedicated public servant and served as one of the first African American Russell County Commissioners and served two terms.
Nathaniel is survived by his 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, daughters Cheryl Gosha of Fort Mitchell, AL, Carol Gardner (Lee) of Columbus, GA, and Angela Gosha-Torbert of Phenix City, AL, Tara Alexander of Columbia, SC and Joseph Newsome of Syracuse, NY. Nathaniel’s siblings are Margaret Austin, Jimmie Gosha, Brenda Jones and the late Martha Ann Johnson.
The family of Mr. Nathaniel Gosha will have a private homegoing celebration Friday, January 8, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Nichols Chapel AME Church located at 215 11th Avenue, Phenix City, AL with burial at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be tomorrow the 7th, from 1 - 3 PM at Progressive Funeral Home.
All services and visitations will be conducted exercising prescribed facial coverings and social distancing protocols.

Mr. Gosha was one of my favorite patients at Fresenius! He always made me smile with his jokes! Always asking me to go buy him some food! HE is missed so much in our clinic and I know by everyone that loved him. May the family find peace in the fact that he is feeling better now. Kimberly Boer
