Marjorie Louise Cook Fleming transitioned home Thursday, March 10, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital at 82 years of age.
The only daughter of the late Thomas and Cleo Stephens Cook, Marjorie was born in Phenix City, AL., August 8, 1939. She was raised predominantly by her grandparents, the late Clifford and Carrie Stephens, Sr. She was an exceptional student and was a 1955 graduate of South Girard High School. She began her collegiate career attending Tuskegee Institute from 1955 to 1957, eventually obtaining her associate degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College later in life.
Marjorie was a member of the Franchise Missionary Baptist Church and came to know the Lord at a very early age. As a member of the Church, she played piano, sang in the choir, and other activities. Along the way, she met and married the late Ervin L. Fleming, Sr., April 2, 1957. From their union, four children were born: Ervin, Jr.; Darryl Shawn; Dareen LaShawn (deceased); and Hiram A.
Marjorie enjoyed traveling across the country and the world with Ervin, who was in the Air Force, raising their sons, showing herself to be a devout mother and virtuous wife. Marjorie always carried herself with grace, charm, strength, and elegance, supporting her family through turmoultuous and memorable times. These traits were very apparent to everyone she met. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman,
Throughout her life, Marjorie was a member of several organizations, but most notably the Eastern Star (PHA), serving as the Worthy Matron, and her bowling league. She loved socializing with the other women of the league, many of whom found her to be a confidant and inspiration. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, venturing into such areas as real estate and product marketing. She was a gifted woman, who always greeted you with warmth and a smile.
Along with her parents and grandparents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, (TSGT, USAF, Retired) Ervin L. Fleming, Sr., and six uncles who were raised as brothers - Calvin Sr., Clifford Jr., Napoleon, Richard Sr., Andrew Sr., and Oliver Stephens.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Rev. Ervin L. Fleming, Jr. (Thelma), Darryl S. Fleming and Hiram Al Fleming; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one cousin, Jewel Owens; a sister-in-law, Ethel Ayers; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Fleming will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 12 PM in the Sanctuary of Franchise Missionary Baptist Church with interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Pastor Raymond Cochran will officiate. Service will be live-streamed (see clickable link below)
Visitation is Monday, 3 til 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home
