Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Rev. Lewis McCants age 76 of Columbus on September 2, 2021
Reverend Lewis McCants was born on August 7, 1945, in Columbus, GA to the late Mr. Herman and Mrs.Annie Kate McCants.
At an early age, Rev. McCants, as he was affectionately called by those who knew him, confessed Christ and united with Wynnton Hill Baptist Church. Later in his adult years he became licensed and ordained under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert L. Evans Sr.
Rev. McCants was known throughout Alabama and Georgia for his love for Christ and The Church. Out of this love came passion. He was passionate about not only preaching and teaching The Gospel, but about singing It as well. Throughout his years in the ministry, Reverend McCants Pastored St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Society Hill, Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church, Opelika, Gethesame Baptist Church, Columbus, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Waverly and James Varicks A.M.E Zion Church Salem. He was a lead member of The Fantastic Gospelaires and up until his health failed, He would sing with various bands and groups. He loved connecting with family and old friends and often displayed his car salesman, mechanic and carpentry skills.
Reverend Lewis McCants went home to be with the Lord on September 02, 2021.
He was proceeded in death by his siblings, Carolyn McCants, Mattie Milligan, Willie Walton McCants, and Herman McCants. He leaves to cherish his memories; Wife: Lucille Grady McCants of Opelika, AL; Children, Greg Grady and Terronald McCants both of Opelika, AL; Grandchildren, Kearston and Christopher McCants both of Opelika, AL and Pierre Hargrove of Birmingham, AL; Great Grandchildren AJ McCants, QuinTavis Edwards Jr, KyMani McCants, KyMari McCants, Christopher Andre' McCants and Demarius Ingram all of Opelika, AL; Sister, Katie Greenwood of Puyallup, WA; Brother-in-law, Lee J.Robinson of Opelika, AL; Niece, Rosaland Greenwood of Puyallup, WA; Special Friend, Addie Kelger of Columbus, Ga; Special Caregivers, Patricia “Ann” Jackson, Shannon Jackson, and Tamekia Jackson-Waldon all of Opelika, AL; A host of friends in the ministry, other relatives, and close friends Rev.Eddie Jennings, Pastor Day, Pastor Herbert Smith.
There will be a Memorial Service for Reverend McCants on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Progressive Funeral Home.
There will be a visitation held on Thursday beginning at 4 PM and ending at 6 PM.
The Staff of Progressive Funeral Home is honored to be selected to provide end of life services.
All services and visitations will be conducted exercising prescribed facial coverings and social distancing protocols.
