Mrs. Katie Bell Burton entered into eternal rest on Sunday at the blessed age of 87.
A native of Opelika, AL and the daughter of the late John and Earline (Frazier) Strickland, Sr. She was a 1954 graduate of J. W. Darden High School. Attended Columbus Technical College, earning a degree in Cosmetology, and worked as a Master Cosmetologist at Stylistic Beauty Salon. Later she opened Kay’s Beauty shop at her residence.
Mrs. Burton joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Opelika, AL at an early age. Then became a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1978.
She met Mr. Burton and after a short courtship, the two married on December 23, 1956. They remained married until his death in August 1996.
Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by; brothers, John, Matthew, Willie, Andrew, James; and one sister Ruth Stephens.
Cherishing her memories, one son, Rinza Burton, Jr. (Ret); two daughters, Charlotte Burton and Aisha Heard (Edwin); six grandchildren, AT2 Alexander, Nailah, Reyana, Rayland, Edwin III, and Cardia (Yashica); five great-grandchildren; one brother, David; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Jeanette; a host of devoted nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Katie Burton will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend David Stallion, with interment at Evergreen Memorial Garden.
The visitation will be Friday, 1 until 5:00 PM.
