Obituary For Juanita Carson Booker

Mrs. Juanita Carson Booker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and unwavering Servant of God, transitioned home peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 95 years of age. Mrs. Booker’s life was a true testament to love, kindness, and unwavering strength and dedication to helping others.

Born in Reynolds, Georgia, on August 21, 1930, to Mildred Dent Carson Perry and James Carson, Mrs. Booker attended the Taylor County Public Schools, where she graduated with honors. She graduated from Albany State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree; a Master of Science Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Fort Valley State College, and a Specialist Degree in Education, Counseling and Guidance from Auburn University. Upon moving to Columbus, her love for learning turned into a 46 year career that touched the lives of thousands of young people. Her career consisted of twelve years as a classroom educator, seven years as Director of Guidance at Talbotton Road Junior High School, and seven years as Director of Guidance at Daniel Junior High School. She served for twenty years as the first coordinator of Guidance Services for the Muscogee County School District. Because of her trailblazing efforts, on August 21st of this year, the Muscogee County School Board named the Counseling and Social Work department in her honor.

Mrs. Booker was a member of the First African Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a Deaconess, Trustee with the Finance Committee, Rebekkah Missionary Ministry, and the Century Club, where she served as president for 22 years. Her many social and civic organizations include: Partners in Education Coordinator, the Board of Directors of the Department of Family and Children’s Services, Columbus Community Center, Student Assistant Professional Association, Rape Crisis Center, Women Wanting Justice, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. (Local Charter Member), Jack and Jill Foundation, Historical Columbus Foundation Scholarship, the Columbus State University Teen Achievers, Girl’s Inc., The Orchettes Civic and Social Club, The Matrons Bridge Club (President), The Starlight Bridge Club, The Girl Friends Bridge Club, and the Magnificent Bridge Club. Moreover, her contributions to organizations such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Gamma Tau Omega Chapter, where she was a Golden Soror and Pearl Member, and S.I.S.T.E.R.S. Inc., highlighted her commitment to enriching the lives of those around her.

Other than her parents, and devoted grandmother, Mrs. Letha Ingram, Mrs. Booker was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Foger Booker, and her beloved daughter, Vanessa Faye Booker Morgan. Surviving are: her grandchildren, Michael Morgan (Elizabeth) and Jazmine Glotfelty (Jeremy); two great grandchildren, Stella Shaye Morgan and Malia Phaye Morgan; a brother, James Carson; a sister-in-law, Juanita Coleman; devoted goddaughters, Mrs Sandra Hunley-White, Lynn Hall Green (Reverend Roderick), a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, special children, and friends. Juanita leaves a rich legacy of strength, grace and, passion. An enduring testament to a life well lived and a woman deeply loved.

A Memorial Service of Love and Thanksgiving for the life of Mrs. Juanita Carson Booker will be held Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First African Baptist Church, where Reverend Roderick B. Green, pastor, will officiate. Service will be live-streamed (see clickable link below)

An Ivy Beyond the Wall Service will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Sanctuary. In lieu of floral tributes, the family asks that donations be made to SISTERS, Inc., PO Box 12096, Columbus, GA 31917, and/or Vanessa Booker Morgan Memorial Foundation.
