Johnnie Mae Gardner Jemison or Mrs. J as she was affectionately addressed was born January 9, 1931 in Aliceville, AL. to the late Johnny and Lillie Gardner. She entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted family at the age of 91.
Mrs. Jemison was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of the Seniors on the Move, the General Missionary Society and served on many committees in the church.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Jemison was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jemison, Jr; son, William Austin Gardner; brother, Joe Gardner; and sister-in-law, Mary Gardner.
She leaves to cherish her memories; four children, Shirley Jemison Howe (Arthur), Dwight Jemison (Lavern), Dorothy Jemison Gordan (Glynn) and Robert Jemison III; a granddaughter, that she helped raise, Patrice Luttrell (Aliphia); siblings, James T. Gardner and Gibbs Gardner (Mildred); daughters-in-law, Sandra Jemison and Katie Gardner; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.
Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Johnnie Mae Jemison will take place on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Friendship Baptist Church, 831 6th Ave., at 3:30 p.m. EST.
Interment will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning Georgia.
Visitation Sunday, begins at 2:00 until 4:00 PM.
