Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Jewell Lewis age 71 of Columbus on December 29, 2020.
Jewell Mays Lewis was born on June 17, 1949, to the late Rev. Raymond Mays, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Mays in Columbus, GA. Jewell was a 1967 graduate of Carver High School. She completed post-secondary studies at Tuskegee Institute where she received a Bachelorโs degree and Columbus College where she earned a Masterโs degree. Jewell was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Jewell was a member of the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. After 29 years of service as an educator, she retired from the Muscogee County School District.
Jewell was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Jenkins and Raymond Mays, Jr. and two sisters, Jerelene Mays Coleman and Yvonne Mays. She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Herman (Marceda) Lewis, Jr.; one daughter, Tavika Lewis; one sister, Evelyn Mays Abron; a god-daughter, Jasper Sparks; brother-in-law, Ronald Coleman; sister-in-law, Sandra Mays; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life for Ms. Lewis will be held Sunday, January 3, 2021, at 12:30 P.M. at Green Acres Cemetery with Rev. James Gant officiating.
Visitation hours will be Saturday, January 2, 2021, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Progressive Funeral Home.
