Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Ms. Jessie Harris age 91 of Columbus, GA on December 3, 2020.
Jessie Mae Harris was born on April 16, 1929 to the late Eliza Williams in Canton, Mississippi.
She was married to Walter Harris, Jr. for 73 years. Their union was blessed with seven children. Mrs. Harris was an active member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia. She served faithfully as a Deaconess, President of Usher Board#1, and the Mission Department. She was Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Association Women Auxiliary Treasurer and Deacons Wives President. She was also a member of the Prince Hall Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Jurisdiction of Georgia, a past President of The Controller’s Civic and Social Club and an avid bowler with The Fun-Time Bowlers.
She was a true servant of God and it showed in all that she did for her church and her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Harris, Jr. and son, James Thomas Harris Jessie leaves to celebrate her life; her daughters, Kathryn L. Skinner, (Ray), Barbara J. Tyler (James), Kimberly R. Allen (Ralph); her sons, Walter J. Harris, (Sandra), Freddie Harris (Theresa) and Charles Harris; a special sister-in-law, Ruby Grant; her 15 Grandchildren and her 17 Great-Grand Children.
The family of Ms. Jessie Mae Harris will have private Graveside services. There will be a visitation held for Ms. Harris on Friday, December 11, 2020 beginning at 2 P.M. and ending at 4 P.M.
