Ms. Janie Threatt Hendricks a native of Columbus, Georgia was born on February 5,
1932, to the late Mr. James Shepherd and Mrs. Theresa Threatt Robinson, and was
raised by a loving stepfather, Mr. John Lee Robinson. Janie peacefully passed away on
June 2, 2023. She was educated at Radcliffe School and graduated from William H.
Spencer High School in 1950. She attended Booker T. Washington School of Practical
Nursing where she received a certification as a surgical technician.
She leaves behind four children, each a testament to her love and nurturing spirit:
Jerome (Mary) Dennis, Sharon (Lenward) Lee, Reverend Audrey Ferguson- Edwards,
and Clark (Shirley) Dooley. Janie invested her heart and soul into raising her children,
providing them with unwavering support, guidance, and the values that would shape
their own lives. She took pride in their accomplishments and found joy in the love and
that bound their family together. Janie’s greatest joy came from her role as a mother.
At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life, becoming a member of Grant Chapel
A.M.E. Church. Her love for God led her to actively serve the church in various
capacities, as a Missionary, YPD Director, Trustee, Stewardess, and Choir member. Her
selfless service left an indelible mark on the Women’s Missionary Society. Janie's deep
spirituality and desire to spread God's love guided her actions, and she was a shining
example of faith in action.
In addition to her service within the church, Janie was a former first lady, supporting her
husband in his ministry and providing steadfast encouragement to the congregation.
Janie was a faithful and longtime member of Grant Chapel AME church. She was a
passionate servant of God and the mother of the church.
She was a source of strength and inspiration, always extending a helping hand to those
in need and offering words of comfort and wisdom. Janie’s commitment to serving
others extended beyond the walls of the church. She dedicated 29 years of her
professional life to the Columbus Medical Center, where her expertise as a surgical
technician positively impacted the lives of countless patients.
Janie's skill, compassion, and genuine care for others earned her the respect and
admiration of her colleagues and the medical community.

The BEST Mother in Love. I will miss her humor and zest for life. She kept it until God was calling her to transition to her Heavenly home. Rest on mama, you deserve it. You did what you needed to do. Tell my mama I love and miss her and you two catch up. Forever in my heart- Lynnette
