Mrs. Geraldine P. Stephens passed away quietly Thursday at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center at the age of 71.
Born in Cairo, GA, she was the daughter of the late Nehemiah, Sr. and Geraldine Rainey Wooten. She was a graduate of Huntsville High School in Huntsville, AL and studied nursing at Columbus Technical College where she obtained a certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She also served for several years with the Muscogee County Schools as a para-professional. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church and its choir.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, SFC (Retired) John D. Stephens, and two siblings, Randy Wooten and Joyce Grant. Surviving her departure with cherished memories, include; five children, Kevin Stephens (Cynthia), Angela Stephens, Elizabeth Ross, Patricia Stewart (Richard), and Pamela Williams (David); nine grandchildren, Christopher Ross (Desiree), Christin Ross, Natalia Lindsey, Richard Stewart, Jr., Jorie Stewart, David Williams, Jr. and Daley Williams, Willie Dixon and Breanna Dixon; two great grandchildren, Mateo Ross and Aria Ross; her siblings, Virginia Williams, Nehemiah Wooten, Jr. (Ann), Carolyn Wooten, Gloria Lawson (John), Herman Wooten (Lorna), Jackie Wooten (Florence), Jimmy Wooten (Iva), Barbara Wooten and Brenda Carter (Gary Sr.), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Stephens will be Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with Pastor David Stallion officiating.
The interment will follow at Main Post Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday, 3 til 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Staff of Progressive Funeral Home is honored to be selected to provide end of life services.
All services and visitations will be conducted exercising prescribed facial coverings and social distancing protocols.
I'm sadden by the passing of Mrs. Stephens. I meet her many years ago when Tricia and I worked together at Winn Dixie. She had a beautiful smile then, and every time I saw her, she had that same smile. Sending My Condolences to the entire family, may God comfort each of you. 🙏🏾
