Mrs. Erma Vernice Brown passed away Friday at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center at the blessed age of 90.
A native of Columbus and the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Sally Lou Miles Spencer, Mrs. Brown was a 1952 graduate of William H. Spencer High School and Columbus Beauty School. A licensed Cosmetologist, she had been employed at Bud Johnson Hair Stylist. She also was employed by the Patrick Family of Columbus and served as a Hall Monitor at William H. Spencer High School. A very devout member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church for some seventy plus years, she was a member of PICCM and the Seniors Birthday Club. She also was a member of the Jolly Matrons Civic and Social Club.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Command Sergeant Major Retired Edward Brown.
Survivors include three loving children, Rosetta V, McClain, Edwina V. Clanton (Jimmy) and Edward N. Brown; four grandchildren, Danyalle Miles, Kelsey Brown, Christian Brown and Joshua Brown; one great granddaughter, Melody Willis; two brothers, Alto Spencer and Elbert Smith; a “sister cousin”, Lessie Ste- phens; a goddaughter, Jackie McCall; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Mrs. Brown will be laid to rest with her husband at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA on Friday, April 21, 2023 following a Eleven O’clock AM Homegoing Celebration in the sanctuary of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Johnny H. Flakes III.
Visitation is 2:00 til 5:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
