God Took Him To His Loving Home
God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be
He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered, “come with me.”
He suffered much in silence; his spirit did not bend.
He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
He tried so hard to stay with us, but his fight was not in vain,
Good took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain. ANON
(The printed passage above was carefully selected because it expresses the very essence of the situation with the deceased, Curtis Edward Rogers.) After a long fight with cancer, Curtis entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 12:12 am PST at Long Beach Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, California.
Curtis Rogers was born on November 9, 1964, at what was known then as Gen. Hospital Ventura County in Ventura, California. He was raised by his step-father, Luke Williams and his mother, Orelia Rogers Williams, who entered into eternal rest one day prior to Curtis, November 12, 2021.
Curtis was the type of person anyone would desire to be around and know. He was generally friendly, happy, full of laughter and he carried a positive energy force into the environment wherever he was found. It was believed by some that if there was a need, Curtis would be the person you could go to and solicit support. Curtis was formerly educated in schools within the Long Beach Unified School District. Curtis was a skilled writer, and he wrote plays and often shared them with people close to him. At the time of death, Curtis was employed as a cook at Gelson’s Restaurant in Manhattan Beach, California.
Curtis professed Christ to be his personal savior and was a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church at a period during his Christian walk and he was also a devout member and volunteer in the Salvation Army ministry and charity campaigns. During the Christmas season, Curtis could be seen as a representative of the Salvation Army in military type attire towing a bell as an effort to solicit financial donations to support those in need. The final years of Curtis' life was devoted to fighting for and ministering to those with substance abuse challenges.
Preceding the death of Curtis was his stepfather and mother Luke Williams and Orelia Williams. He leaves to cherish his memories one aunt: Catherine Rogers Woodard of San Jacinto, California; two uncles: Douglas Edward Rogers Sr. (Jesse) of Columbus, Georgia and Rev. Jerome Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia; One nephew: Lavelle Williams of Los Vegas, Nevada; a close friend: John Williams of Carson, California who supported Curtis throughout the final days in his fight with cancer and a host of cousins and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Rogers will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021 beginning at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Progressive Funeral Home with interment at Green Acres Cemetery. Service will be live-streamed (see clickable link below)
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 from 3 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
Thank you Curtis for your friendship. I will miss your writings of encouragement in some of my darkest times. I will miss our shared moments talking and laughing. I can hardly believe I am saying farewell to you. You and our Mom are back together again and this time there will be no goodbyes. See you at the gathering my Brother.
