Mr. Charles Edward Brunson was born on September 26, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland
to the late Ellie Brunson and Henrietta Whitaker. He departed this life on Tuesday,
September 17, 2024 in Columbus, Georgia.
Charles was a 1973 graduate of Maywood High School of Sumter, South Carolina.
Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. While enlisted in the army,
he married the love of his life, Elillion Brunson. Charles was united in Holy Matrimony to
Elillion Brunson February 20, 1975 (almost married for 50 years). He was a member of
Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mayesville, South Carolina.
Charles also attended Columbus Technical Institute. He worked for The Medical Center
currently known as Piedmont Hospital (over 30 years before retiring). While working
there, he worked in the laundry area, a phlebotomist, worked in supply department and
physical therapist. He worked for the Columbus Umpire Association and Columbus
Referee Association. He was a diehard Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves and Atlanta
Falcons fan.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ellie Brunson and Henrietta Whitaker
(James); paternal grandparents Benjamin Brunson and Maggie China; maternal
grandparents Sanders and Druesilla Lee Hart, Sr.; and sister Sheila Brunson. A special
daughter in law Erica Mangum Brunson.
Charles leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Elillion Brunson (49 years);
children Latarshia Bowen, Tiko Brunson, and Christopher (Ahkelia) Brunson of
Columbus, GA and Ebony (Mody) Spencer III of (Decatur, AL); 14 grandchildren
Ashontee, Tavia, Kiera, Ka’Lena, Abrea, Ja’Montae, Kianna, Chase, Caylen, Kenneth,
Kent, Grace, Kyla, and London (The Brat); a host of special children, great aunts, great
uncles, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, The Silverbacks (devoted friend Leroy
Samuels) and many dear friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Brunson will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM Greater Peace Baptist Church with interment at Evergreen Memorial Garden.
Visitation Friday 2 - 5:00 PM at Progressive.
