Ms. Barbara Dean Offutt passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the age of 70.
Ms. Barbara Dean Hall was born on June 24, 1953 in Tuskegee, Alabama to the late Ike Hall and Willow Dean Hall Marshall.
Barbara attended J.F. Drake High School in Auburn, Alabama and graduated from Auburn High School, Auburn, Alabama in 1971 when the school was then integrated.
She had one daughter, Kimmerly Milner currently in Phenix City, Alabama.
She joined the US Army in 1974, which gave her the opportunity to further her education and travel abroad. While serving her country, she obtained her Associate Degree in Office Management from Park College in Arlington, Virginia in 1989.
After retiring from the US Army she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Coker College in Hartsville, SC in 1996.
She enjoyed traveling, church activities at The Potter’s House and volunteering at numerous Veteran affairs. She was a member of the American Legion Fletcher-McCollister Post 135. When with family and friends you could always find her dancing, laughing, joking and having a good time. She was a Veteran who was very proud of her service and enjoyed connecting with other Veterans.
She enjoyed caring for her two very well trained fur babies, Sargeant and Pepper. She got the two Chihuahuas when they were just puppies. The two brought much joy to her life and they loved and adored her.
Barbara had a successful career life. In the military, she worked in Personnel Administration in various locations throughout her career. She retired from The United States Army as a Staff Sergeant. She then went into the education field as a Secretary, Database Specialist and Librarian Clerk/Technician in South Carolina. She was again able to retire from the Georgia Department of Labor in Columbus, Georgia where she worked as a Labor Service Assistant.
She became very popular at Covenant Woods Retirement Community and she continued to live independently enjoying the many activities of care-free, retirement living. You could find her attending the community dances, Town Hall Meetings, Women’s Day and Veteran’s Day activities often speaking at these events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Grace Marshall and brother, James Hall as well as her beloved sister in-law, Sandra Faye Avery Hall.
Left to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Kimmerly Milner; siblings Richard Hall of Opelika, Alabama, Eddie(Sandra) Hall of Auburn, Alabama, Willie (Nellie) Hall of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ike Hall, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia and Mary Nell Hall of Beauregard, Alabama. Also, special sister-In-laws, Vermell (Jean) Bush of Columbus, Georgia and Rosie Milner of Denver, Colorado. She was loved by a host of family –aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Memorial Service for Ms. Offutt will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 beginning at 11:30 AM at Potter's House Baptist Church at 124 Highway 165 Phenix City, AL, with interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.

Kind,sweet,loving, giving, playful, a wonderful sense of humor and pleasant company to be in--a Christian woman...all of these traits describe my friend, Barbara. We maintained a good relationship for several years, and I thank God for allowing our paths to cross.
