Ms. Barbara Anne Dorsey (McRae) passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Barbara Anne McRae Dorsey was born on January 10, 1936, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, to Oliver (O.B.) and Willie Mae McRae and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Timothy (T.T.) Alexander.
A graduate of Spencer High School and Fort Valley State College, Barbara dedicated her life to education and retired from the Muscogee County School District. Deeply rooted in faith and music, she faithfully served at Fourth Street Baptist Church as a youth leader and choir director and later became a cherished member of South Columbus United Methodist Church.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Dorsey; her sister, Ruth Barnett; her godson, Allen Wigfall; and her cherished companion, Clinton Echols.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her daughters, Gayle Daniels (Sam), Faye Boyer, Veleta Pasley (Gene), Belva Dorsey-Mott (Bernard), Nicol Lewis, and Joni Dorsey; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and countless family members, friends, former students, and loved ones.
The Memorial Service for Ms. Dorsey will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary's United Methodist Church.

I love my sister, Barbara Dorsey. She was sunshine every time I saw her. She always had a kind word. I enjoyed it when she came to my Sunday School Class. Rest in Heaven my sweet soul.
