Mr. Willie "Growny" Scott, Sr., 83, of LaGrange, Georgia, by way of Hinesville, Georgia, and formally of West Point, Georgia, transitioned on March 22, 2026 at Trails of Journey, LaGrange, Georgia.
Graveside Services for Mr. Willie C. Scott, Sr., will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Harmony Memorial Gardens, 6415 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Lanett, Alabama 36863. Reverend Charles Trammell, Eulogist.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.
Mr. Willie “Growny” Scott was born in LaFayette,
(Chambers County) Alabama, to the parents of the late Evelena
Scott and Willie Carlton Morgan on March 5, 1943. Willie was
the oldest of seven children. When Willie was 11 years old, he
moved from LaFayette, where he lived with his grandmother,
to West Point, Georgia to live with his mother, Evelena. He
remained in West Point until 1987 when he, his wife, Josiephine,
and their family moved to LaGrange, Georgia; where he stayed
until 2019. Willie resided in Hinesville, Georgia, for two years
before returning to LaGrange, Georgia, where he passed.
Willie was employed for years by the Coca-Cola
Bottling Company (West Point, Georgia), Batson-Cook (West
Point, Georgia), West Point Pepperell (Lanett, Alabama), West
Point High School (West Point, Georgia), and The Defender
Employment Agency (Lagrange, Georgia).
He volunteered for several years as a head coach of his
little league football team, and he refereed games as well at the
Troup County Recreation Department in LaGrange, Georgia.
“Growny” was a kind, loving, funny, dedicated, and
devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend
to many. He enjoyed and loved his hobbies of gardening,
lawncare, and landscaping. He was a comedian in his own
right. He enjoyed joking with family members and friends as
well as pulling pranks on them for fun!
Willie was a member of New Mount Pleasant Baptist
Church in West Point, Georgia. He was married to Josiephine
Dardy Scott for 27 happy years until she passed away in 1999.
Willie was also preceded in death by his parents; brother,
Michael Scott; sisters, Charlene Ogletree and Mary Sue Myers;
and recently an aunt, Charmel Wright.
Willie leaves to cherish his loving memories, one
daughter, Pamela Scott (LaShon Billingsley), of LaGrange,
Georgia; two sons, Christopher Scott, and Willie Carlton Scott,
Jr., both of West Point, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, and
eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Faye) Scott
of LaFayette, Alabama, Donald Scott of Augusta, Georgia,
Ronald (Peggy) Scott of West Point, Georgia; two brothers-
in-law, Joey (Gwendolyn) Dardy of Lanett, Alabama; Bennie
Dardy of Opelika, Alabama; several nieces, nephews, cousins,
and a host of relatives, and friends.
