Rev. William “Bill” Fannings of West Point, GA gained his wings into eternal rest on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center, Columbus, GA.
William “Bill” Fannings was born on February 7, 1939 in Fireco, West Virginia. He was the first of seven children born to the late Katie and Ernest Fanning. His paternal grandmother, Charlie Thompson, affectionately known as “Big Ma” had a major influence in his life. Siblings who preceded him in death are Jim Ernest (Mary), Early, Nathaniel, and Charles. He departed this life on Sunday, October 25, 2020.
He joined Theresa Almon in marriage in 1988 and to this union three sons were born - Ernest Akin Mwanafunzi, Hoston Kimojo Ayorinde, and JahWill Mkaliji. He also had three children from a former marriage, Tima LaVon, Samone’ LaRae Napier, and Cory Angelo.
Throughout his life, Bill was dedicated to community service. He left a lasting impact in California, as well as in Georgia. Elder William Henry Fannings will certainly be missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa, his children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild; his sisters, Mattie Hairston (Decatur, Georgia); Martha Smith (Detroit, Michigan); Deborah Bruns (Larry) (Riverdale, Georgia); brother, Ronald (Linda) (Hampton, Virginia); in-laws, Patricia Fanning, Hoston, Jr., Patricia Almon (Detroit, Michigan); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
As he desired, his body was donated to medical research where “he will help tens of thousands of people for many years to come.” Memorial Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 306 East 7th Street in West Point, Georgia on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Erik Mays, Pastor, serving as the Eulogist.
