Vivian Rhodes was born April 18, 1931, in Chambers County, Alabama, to the late David and Sadie Floyd. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her son’s residence in Riverdale, Georgia.
From her earliest days, she came to know the Lord and embraced the promise of everlasting life. She joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where she built a strong spiritual foundation and faithfully nurtured her faith. She served for many years as the church usher and secretary. She “loved to write” and took great joy in teaching Sunday School, always committed to helping young hearts understand and embrace God’s Word.
Vivian met Jimmy Rhodes, the love of her life, and after a long and loving courtship, they were united in marriage, sharing many wonderful years until his passing in 1976.
Affectionately nicknamed “Toot” by many, Vivian's work life was marked by steady dedication. She spent years working for West Point Stevens before retiring. She also remained active in her community as a member of the Jets Social Club. Those who knew her knew she was thorough and dependable in both her spiritual walk and her approach to responsibility.
Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy “Radio”; her parents, David and Sadie Floyd; her twin brothers, David and Dosia; and her sisters, Parthenia White, Effie English, and Dorothy McClure.
Vivian leaves behind her cherished memories with her son, Robert J. Floyd of Riverdale, GA, who lovingly cared for her during her later years. Her siblings, Joe Willie Floyd (Cincinnati, OH), Sadie Holloway (Atlanta, GA), and Linda (Gregory) Peterson (Lanett, AL); grandchildren Belinda Huguley, Brenda Floyd, Jennifer Clyde, Jacqueline Arceneaux; 10 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren, including those yet to be born, and continue her legacy; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; a special friend Gail Hunter; and ex-daughter-in-law Patricia Floyd whom she held in high regard.
Vivian’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, generous service, and deep love for family. May her memory be honored and cherished by all whose lives she touched.
