Obituary For Sonja D. Askew
Ms. Sonja D. Askew, 53, of Lanett, AL, transitioned on June 23, 2025, at Bethany House, Auburn, Alabama.
Funeral Services for Ms. Sonya D. Askew will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 1:00 pm EST in the sanctuary of the New Dimension Worship Center, 5610 20th Avenue, Valley, AL, with Bishop Donald Lancaster, Pastor, Officiating and Bishop Calvin Daniel, Eulogist.
Interment will be held in the Zion Rest Baptist Church Cemetery, 2947 50th Street, Valley, AL.
Public viewing will be on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 2:00 pm EST until 6:00 pm EST at the M. W. Lee Mortuary.
Sonja D. Askew, daughter of Mary Askew and the late Mr. Ernest Askew, Jr., was born August 30th, 1971, in Lanett, Alabama. She gained her heavenly wings into eternal rest on June 23rd, 2025, at Bethany House, Auburn, Alabama.
She was a devoted member of Greatest Harvest Christian Center, Valley, Alabama, where she worshipped faithfully and built last connections within her spiritual community.
She received her education in the Lanett City School System, where she was a proud graduate of the Lanett High School Class of 1989. She dedicated her professional life to serving others and retired with honors from the Tuskegee Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Tuskegee, Alabama.
Sonja found joy in spending time with her friends and traveling to new places. Her vibrant personality and love for life made every moment memorable.
She was a devoted and loving daughter, mother, sister, and
grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Askew, Jr.
Sonja leaves to cherish her memories her two beautiful daughters, Shaquonia Askew and Qyeishia Askews; one granddaughter, Jamarci Mackey; her loving mother, Mary Askew Askew; her one and only brother, Anthony Askew; her best friend of many years, Latoya (Emanuel) Swanson; host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
