Mrs. Ruby Dean Marshall Williams was born September 23, 1944, in Chambers County, Alabama, to the late Elijah Marshall, Sr., and Catherine Rudd Woody.
Ruby was educated in the Fairfax area public school system. She continued her education and received several early childhood education certifications and an associates degree from Auburn University.
Ruby accepted Christ at an early age, where she joined the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. After marrying her husband, Eddie B., she moved her membership to Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church where she served as treasurer of the Nurses’ Guild, a deaconess, matron, choir member and worked with Foreign Mission of the Bowen East District. Her favorite song was “The Little Red Church.”
Affectionally known as, “Ms. Ruby,” she was admired for her good down home cooking, especially collards, cabbage, turnips and cornbread. And we can’t forget the sweet tea! She could cook it all and was the best at it because cooking was her expression of love!
Ms. Ruby was a dedicated employee of the Chambers, Tallapoosa, Coosa County HeadStart Program for over 40 years. She started as an assistant teacher and ended her career as center coordinator. Ms. Ruby was an early influence in childhood educational development and touched many young lives throughout the community and surrounding area. Her love for children was unmatched. After retiring, she continued working with Kiddie College Preschool Daycare, where she worked until she was 80 years old.
On April 16, 2026, she entered into her eternal resting place.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary J. Holloway and Lottie J. Woody; one brother, Billy Holloway; and one granddaughter, Shumbria P. Williams.

This hurts really deep because Ruby was more than just my cousin, she was truly a family friend. Her and my mom Patricia were the best of friends working for Headstart and outside of work as well. We would always remember each other birthday, even though she was always two weeks late sending me a birthday card lol. So, sending our thoughts, condolences and prayers as well as you all go through this difficult time.
