Myron Douglas Barber was born August 10, 1957, to the late Rev. Charlie Barber, Sr. and Synella Andrews Barber of West Point, GA. He transitioned on March 6, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charlie Barber, Jr.
Myron grew up in the Barberville Community in West Point, GA. He attended the Harris County Public School System. During high school, he was active in a few clubs. He was on the staff of Folk & Kinfolk and they published several journals. In the 1976 edition, Myron wrote an article about Cora Lee Barber, his grandmother, and produced some of the artwork. Myron graduated from high school in 1977 and later attended Columbus Technical College, Columbus, GA.
Myron was a man of many talents. In the 1980’s, he was an engineer with West Point Pepperell, West Point, GA. He drove school bus for Troup County and Harris County School Systems. He decided to change careers and became a truck driver. He enrolled in trucking school in Bowling Green, Kentucky. For thirty plus years, Myron drove for several trucking companies until his health began to fail. The final trucking company for which he was employed was J. C Colley Freight Company, Fairfax, Alabama.
“If I can imagine it and I can believe it, I can create it,” was Myron’s unstated motto. Early in life, he designed and built several structures on the Barber property. He created and built his own little miniature town located on Highway 103, West Point, GA. This miniature town was featured in the Esquire Magazine, several newspapers, and other publications. Myron also enjoyed sketching, photography, making model cars, and collecting antique and model vehicles. At an early age, Myron gave his life to Christ and joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. There he served as an usher and became president of the usher board. Later in life he united with Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point, GA where Dr. W. T. Edmonson is the pastor.
