Mr. Michael Sands, age 65, of West Point, GA, transitioned on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, GA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Marseilles Cemetery with Rev. Willie James Barber, II, Eulogist, Bishop Bertha Hodge, Rev. Michael Slaughter, Overseer G. L. Fanning, assisting.
Public Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. ET until 6:00 p.m. ET at the mortuary.
Michael Anthony was born August 24, 1956 to the parentage of Anna M. Sands and the late Bobby Joe Barber in West Point, GA. He transitioned into eternal life on March 7, 2022 at West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, GA with family by his side.
Michael attended the West Point Public School System and was a member of the1974 graduating class of West Point High School. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
After graduating from high school, Michael worked for Lanett Bleachery & Die Works for five years. Later, he was employed at WestBrook Tires Company, where he worked as a Certified Refrigeration Technician for over 25 years. Michael later was employed by Plantation Patterns where he retired.
“Sandman”, as he was know by many, worked as a self-made mechanic for more than 30 years. He was a mechanic who enjoy repairing his family and friends automobiles. Michael’s pastime was spending time with his buddies and watching cars go by on 10th Street.
He was preceded in death by his father, wife, Trudy Truman maternal grandparents, Jack and Emma Lindsey; paternal grandparents, Marvin and Lurleen Barber and a sister, Jacquelyn Marie Sands.
Michael leaves to cherish his precious memories to his loving and caring son, Michael Antonio Grier of Luthersville, GA; his devoted mother and caregiver, Anna M. Sands of West Point, GA; four stepsons, Patrick, Reggie, Brandon and Mike Turman of Roanoke, AL; three brothers, Bobby Joe (Ethel) Barber of Lanett, AL, Jeffery (Mary) Boyd of Dallas, GA, Anthony (Jackie) Barber of Montgomery, AL; three sisters, Gwendolyn (Joey) Dardy and Janice (Jamie) Heard of Lanett, AL and Lacey Sands Ward of LaGrange, GA; eight grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; one god-sister, Karen (Wayne) Thompson of Snellville,Ga; a caregiver, Tony Sands of West Point, GA; four very special friends, Frankie Pittman, Bobby Williams, William Wilson all of West Point, GA and Tony Dozier of Roanoke, AL.
Michael will be remembered for his silly personality and the ability to “light up the room”. He always enjoyed a good time with his best friends. He will be greatly missed by loved ones and family.
